Insider’s Gascony:

Art de Vivre! with Elizabeth Murray

JUNE 2-8 & 15-21, 2020

An Insider’s Look into Food, Art, and Culture of Gascony with guest Artist Elizabeth Murray and Kate Hill

Come celebrate the the most important moments of life, bringing friends and family closer together with life enriching experiences of creating food, art, and joy. Stay in a stunning restored chateau on a nearby wine estate; visit and shop at farmers markets to discover delicious food for still lives that transform into our meals; learn to make beloved French country food with Kate Hill; unlock your creative energy with author, artist, photographer Elizabeth Murray.

A week of leisurely hours together at Camont and other locations include creative lessons, with food, art, and stories. Join us in the most enchanting settings that will open your heart, and feed your body and soul. We will visit the original water lily nursery just down the road from where Monet procured all his water lilies. At Latour-Marliac , now restored in its Victorian splendor, we will paint, photograph and have lunch among the gardens. We will visit other local growers including an orchard conservatory with 1200 different and rare fruit trees, sip and explore artisan wineries, traipse through sunflower fields, and visit a little known Roman site to photograph and paint inspired by the natural mosaics and landscapes. During the second week offered, on the evening of the Summer Solstice, we will make the rounds to traditional music festivals in the surrounding villages tasting culture and local foods.

I am perhaps best known for my work helping to cultivate Monet’s gardens and photographing them for 33 years. My photos have traveled with Monet’s paintings to eight museums, and are published annually in calendars and the award winning Monet’s Passion: Ideas, Inspiration & Insights from the Painter’s Gardens.

Art lessons with Elizabeth Murray will inspire you to create in each moment using a travel journal, quick watercolor sketches, collage, poems, recipes, stories, nature printing, and photographs from your iPhone or bigger camera. Drawing while sipping wine, eating or chatting with a friend under a shady tree will be encouraged. Create a charming table with flower arranging with wild bits from Kate’s garden, enjoy an unforgettable Camont-style picnic, experience an elegant yet unfussy way to entertain and create each day.  Oils and formal painting is also welcome. This creative experience will enrich couples, girl friends, family members and be an opportunity for the solo traveler to meet new friends in a relaxed yet delicious environment.
